Somaliland will never be recognized at-least by its people

“When you can measure what you are speaking about and express it in numbers, you know something about it; but when you cannot express it in numbers, your knowledge is of a meagre and unsatisfactory kind; it may be the beginning of knowledge, but you have scarcely in your thoughts advanced to the state of science, whatever the matter maybe.”
Lord Kevin

Somaliland has been crying for recognition while the so-called political parties, Kulmiye, Ucid,
and Udib all have political vision based on deep hatred, tribalism, and corruption. The basic
tools of recognition are missing. The people are extremely unhappy the way the warlords are
running the region. On top of that, fear is over shadowed the area recently because of the
occupation of the southern part of Somalia by the ugly headed, and the dying regime of Zenawi
and his Tigre forces.
Referendum in Somaliland can be the last hope for freedom of the long suffering people of
“Somaliland,” because the Somaliland warlords create false regions, and districts to expand the
tribal territory.
The people who even support an independent Somaliland belief that the following
reasons dismantle any hope of independence of Somaliland:

  1. Unprofessional warlords occupy the major ministries to feed their greed habit, and to
prosper more rapidly. The appointed governor of Awdal, Mahamoud Abdilahi Egeh is a
good example of those unprofessional warlords.
  2. What they call the Somaliland parliament does not represent the entire population, it
represents the people who destroyed Somalia, the SNM or what the late Somali
    government called the killers.
  3. The capital city of Awdal has moved to Borame without the indigenous (aboriginal) people’
    s consent.
  4. The Somaliland warlords nominated six capital cities and Gabiley with 21 city council
members to dominate the region, Hargeisa, Buroa, Berbera, Gabiley, Borame, Erigabo,
    and Lasanod;
  5. three out of the six districts represent one tribe without notable reason.
  6. The total population of the regions is unknown.
  7. Riyale sold the coastline of Awdal to foreign fishing companies and Djibouti to receive
money and Djiboutian passport to live in Egypt easily after he leaves Hargeisa according
    to reliable sources.
  8. Riyale Factor: He did not come back to Borame or Quljeed while he was the president
except during the election. He was away for the past several years, the ostrich leader; and
he did not even build a road for his home region although he happens to be an Awdal
Citizen. Do we expect a warlord from Hargeisa or Buroa will build our roads? The answer
is no! Therefore, we do not want have any thing to do with the entire political system of
    Somaliland and its warlords.

Is the United Nations will ever recognize Somaliland? Again the answer is no; Somaliland will
never be recognized because the majority of Awdallanders do not even recognize it. Although
the U.N is not a fair and honest broker of solving the African problems; the U.N. itself creates,
and architects civil wars, and instability in the homeland of Africa. It is the instrument of the big
nations to exploit the poor countries. The Somaliland warlords are still ignoring the
dissatisfaction of their people. There is no need to beg the United Nations to recognize
Somaliland.
The Somali unity supports suggested the following points will serve the well being of the
people of Somaliland until we have a powerful Somali government:

  1. The current Somaliland warlords must leave and new political leaders must be elected
who do     not have blood on their hands.
  2. Present tribal and apartheid like political strategy should be abolished.
  3. The people of Awdal and all the other people live in Somaliland must have an equal
representative in the parliament and the public service.
  4. Somaliland warlords must accept the fact that the majority of Awdallanders are against the
division of their homeland of Somalia except some pockets of special interest groups.
  5. The true Somali scholars and the Somali unity icons are: Professor Ahmed Ismail
Samatar, Dr. Omar Osman Rabi, and many others. They are the true patriotic Somali
citizens, and they are our role models. In other words, we (awdallanders) have to support
their effort of fighting for the unity of Somalia.
  6. Responsible local administrations: we desperately in need of regional system of
government (federal system) in which the executive branch of government requires the
support and the confidence of the regional people in order to govern.

To prove that the majority of Awdallanders are unhappy the way the current warlords of
Somaliland are running the region before a strong Somali government has emerged. A survey
was conducted by Saylaci.com to obtain information about the attitudes of people concerning
the Somaliland political future. The following question was posed to each respondent: What, in
your opinion, is the most critical issue preventing Somaliland to be recognized by the
international community and the majority of Awdallanders? We listed issues facing Somaliland
political future; several cities were randomly selected in North America such as Ottawa, Ontario,
Edmonton, Alberta, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Minneapolis, Minnesota. The following results
were obtained:

Note: F-Expected value for cell = column total * row total / grand total

Based on elementary statistical analysis:Using CHI-SQUARED TEST REQUIREMENTS:
1.        Test must be based on random sampling.
2.        Data observation must be independent.
3.        Observed data must be in the form of whole number frequencies.
4.        Total number of observations must exceed 20.
5.        All expected frequencies must exceed 0 and at least 80% of the expected frequencies
must exceed 5 (also known as the COCHRAN-COX CRITERION).

Procedure:
1.        State H0 and H1.
2.        Calculate and tabulate observed and expected frequencies in a contingency table.
3.        Choose a significance level.
4.        Calculate degree of freedom (d.f = (k-1) (r-1)).
5.        Determine Chi-squared critical (this value is obtained from table).
6.        Calculate Chi-squared observed
7.        If Chi-squared observed > Chi-squared critical. Reject Ho and accept Ha: if Chi-squared
observed < Chi-squared critical, accept Ho.
8.        Make conclusion.

The test statistics is computed by the formula: chi-squared=sum(sigma) (O-E)squared/E

Where O = observed frequency and E = expected frequency in the two samples.

H0 – there is no significant differences among the several areal regions in the opinion of people
concerning the most critical issues preventing Somaliland to be recognized by the international
community and by the majority of Awdallanders.

H1 – there is a significant differences among the several areal regions in the opinion of people
concerning the most critical issues preventing Somaliland to be recognized by the international
community and by the majority of Awdallanders.

d.f (degree of freedom) = (5(categories)-1) (2-1) = 4
significance level (alpha=0.01)
Remember, degree of freedom = (k-1) (r-1)
Chi-squared critical (alpha= 0.01, and df = 4) = 13.28
Chi-squared Observed = 7.72
Since the Chi-squared observed < Chi-squared critical, accept H0 which means:

H0 – there is no significant differences among the several areal regions in the opinion of people
concerning the most critical issues preventing Somaliland to be recognized by the international
community and by the majority of Awdallanders.

H0 – State Conclusion: the study shows that even the independent Somaliland supporters belief
that unless the Somaliland warlords change their hate-monger behavior, Tribal fascism, injustice
towards citizens, and rewarding the SNM atrocity there will be no recognition of Somaliland, and
the Somaliland public opinion is united against the split. There should be an independent
referendum concerning about the Somaliland case. If the majority of W/Galbeed citizens want
independent state let it be and call W/galbeed a Somaliland state; but there is no need to claim
a false state of Somaliland, what the majority of Awdallanders do not want.

Finally, The Somaliland warlords are doing a good job to delay any recognition of Somaliland.
We may soon have viable Somali government which will conduct official referendum of the
Somaliland question. Our position is crystal clear; we do not want to divide our nation into small
countries. We could not defend our nation from Tigre regime. It was obvious that we are moving
deep towards Dark Age to see Tigre forces in Somali capital. What ever political differences we
have, and the Somali tribal issues we created should be handled by Somalis. Our addiction to
tribalism will soon end with God’s help.
